Vincent Spain is a painter based in London.

Working mostly in acrylic, with charcoal and pastel, each body of work can be the culmination of months if not years of mentally gathering imagery as a back catalogue on which to draw from. Mark making and looking, mark making and looking and so it goes until the painting exists, having taken a vow of silence, it allows itself to be observed.
A story from the subconscious, where each mark informs the next and a journey into the unknown begins.
Rarely does an initial idea manifest itself unadulterated on the substrate.
Inspiration comes from encounters with people, either candidly observing or in the midst of it all, in the right light or moment anything can be a painting or at least the catalyst for one.
Influenced by mid 20th century painting my work harks back to that era but is firmly in todays realm.
