'I set myself a space into which I extend my hand'

​

Everything has to be just right before I can start to work, coffee a must.

I don't mind the space being messy or the materials sparse, in fact restrictions and obstacles make me work harder and better.

 

Just right as within myself, like preparing to jump off a cliff edge because once you do there is no going back.

​

Mark making and looking, mark making and looking, and so it goes until the painting takes a vow of silence and allows itself to be observed.

Rarely does an initial idea manifest itself unadulterated on the substrate.

​

I somehow feel the paintings already exist and I am a conduit through which they appear, I often objectively observe myself working and wonder how did that happen.
